"Academy
Award winner for the Best Movie Song of 1935, it's also one of the finest
songs celebrating New York's Great White Way. In its original "Gold Diggers"
form, the song became a brilliant production number designed by dance director
Busby Berkeley; the ten minutes-plus production number literally illustrating
the daily routine of a Broadway babe, sleeping by day and painting the town
by night. The soundtrack recording from "Gold Diggers of 1935" features the
tap dancing by the Busby Berkeley hoofers and it actually made the British
pop singles chart in 1976!
